May be you are using DStv decoder in your home or office, and its connected to only one TV may be in the sitting room or waiting room and you decided to connect dstv decoder to multiple TVs in different rooms or offices to have en extra view. Dstv extra view could be seen as a big task by lots people but I can assure you, its just a simple Step that is required to connect dstv decoder to TV in different locations.
Materials required to add extra TV
Setting up extra view in dstv requires some tools although most of these tools are still used when installing the DStv dish.
Materials required to connect dstv decoder to TV
- Dstv decoder
- TV
- Cable wires
- F-connectors
- Multi-output splitter devices
- Signal booster (optional)
I added signal booster to list as it is necessary to to increase the signal strength. Boosting the signal is important because to have an extra view means that you will watch TV in different locations using one decoder. However, cable wires travelling above 30m will drop some signal, so signal boosters are used to increase the signal strength to maintain quality transmission.
Before we start lest take a quick look at rf-OUT port and rf-IN port. The RF – OUT port is designed to transmit high quality digital TV signals to a long length. The RF – IN port is used for information sake, however it is very important in the DStv explora Extra View setup to direct signals between the primary and secondary decoders.
Follow this tips to connect dstv decoder to TVs in different locations.
Firstly, get your cable wire by gently pealing out the outer surface for attachment of F-connector which is used to connect cable wire to the decoder. When pealing out the outer surface of the cable wire, be extremely careful so the silver tiny metallic shreds don’t come contact with the larger central copper spike.
To connect your decoder a single tv, switch on your decoder, TV and the extra TV. After that connect one side of the cable wire to the RF – OUT port of your decoder and the other end of the cable wire to the Ariel antenna port at the back of your TV. Scan for channels on your TV to find and save the signals received from the DStv decoder. After a successful search and save. After that, your extra TV should start working perfectly.
Firstly, to connect dstv decoder to 2 extra TVs, connect one side of the F-connected cable wire to your RF – OUT port in the DStv decoder. Insert the other F-connected end of the cable wire in to the INPUT port of a double output signal splitter.
Secondly, in 2 connecting two extra TVs, two F-connected cable required to connect the splitter OUTPUT ports to the Ariel antenna INPUT ports of the two extra TVs. After passing through the setup process, scan for channels in the two extra TVs. After that, you have concluded the DSTV extra view setup for 2 TVs.
Finally, if you want to connect dstv decoder to TV (s) in different rooms you can do that by following the above guide. Only that the number of TVs to connect will require the number of splitters and F-connectors to be used. Thanks for reading.
