step by step How to fix infinix finger print issues

If your Infinix fingerprint scanner has stopped working, disappeared from settings, or keeps saying it cannot recognise your finger, you are not alone. It is one of the most common Infinix complaints, and the good news is that most cases are a software issue you can fix at home in a few minutes, not a broken sensor.

The fixes below are ordered from the most likely solution to the last resort. Work through them in order and stop as soon as your fingerprint is working again.

Start Here: Set a Screen Lock First

This single step solves the majority of cases where the fingerprint option has vanished from your settings, and most guides miss it entirely. On Infinix phones running XOS, the fingerprint feature is hidden unless you already have a PIN, pattern, or password set on the phone.

Go to Settings, then Security, or Settings, then Password and security depending on your model. Set a PIN, pattern, or password if you do not already have one. Once a screen lock exists, the fingerprint option reappears, and you can register your print again. If your fingerprint option disappeared after a software update, this is almost always why, since an update can reset the lock while leaving the fingerprint feature hidden until a new lock is set.

Clean Your Finger and the Scanner

Before assuming a software fault, rule out the simplest cause. Moisture, oil, dust, or lotion on either your finger or the sensor will stop it reading correctly.

Wipe the scanner with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth, and make sure your finger is completely dry. If you use a rear-mounted sensor, check that no dirt has built up in the recess. This alone fixes a surprising number of sudden detection failures, especially in hot or humid weather when fingers are damp.

Restart the Phone

A restart clears temporary glitches that can freeze the fingerprint service. Press and hold the power button, then tap Restart. Once the phone is back on, test the scanner again before moving to the more involved steps below. This costs nothing and resolves many after-update hiccups on its own.

Check for a Software Update

Because most Infinix fingerprint faults are software-based, an update often carries the fix. Go to Settings, then About phone, then System update, and let the phone check. If an update is available, download and install it while connected to Wi-Fi with the battery above 40 percent.

Keeping XOS current matters here, since fingerprint bugs introduced by one update are frequently patched in the next one. If your problem started right after an update, a newer update is often the cleanest cure.

Remove a Screen Protector If You Have One

On newer Infinix models with an in-display or side-mounted sensor, a thick or poorly fitted screen protector can block the scanner from reading your print. If your fingerprint stopped working right after fitting a protector, that is the likely cause.

Peel the protector back, or remove it, and test the scanner. If it works again, replace it with a thinner protector, or one specifically labelled as compatible with fingerprint sensors, and fit it with no bubbles or dust trapped underneath.

Delete and Re-register Your Fingerprints

If the scanner is present but keeps rejecting your finger, the stored print may be corrupted. Go to Settings, then Security or Password and security, then Fingerprint, and enter your PIN. Delete the existing fingerprints, then register them again slowly, lifting and repositioning your finger each time the phone prompts you so it captures the edges as well as the centre.

Registering the same finger twice, or registering two different fingers, noticeably improves reliability, since the phone then has more data to match against.

Clear the Settings App Cache

A corrupted Settings cache can make the fingerprint option misbehave or disappear. Go to Settings, then Apps, then find Settings in the app list, then Storage, and tap Clear cache. This clears temporary data only and does not delete your fingerprints, passwords, or personal files, so it is safe to try before anything more drastic.

Wipe the Cache Through Recovery Mode

If clearing the app cache did not help, a system cache wipe through recovery mode is the next step. Switch the phone off, then press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons together until the recovery menu appears. Use the volume keys to highlight Wipe cache partition and the power key to select it. This clears system-wide temporary files without touching your data, and it can resolve deeper software glitches that a normal cache clear cannot reach.

Factory Reset as a Last Resort

If nothing above works, a factory reset clears out whatever software fault is causing the problem, but it erases everything on the phone. Back up your photos, contacts, and files first, then go to Settings, then System, then Reset options, then Erase all data. Keep the battery above 40 percent throughout, since a phone that switches off mid-reset can leave the fingerprint feature broken rather than fixed, which is a common reason a reset appears not to work.

When It Is Actually a Hardware Fault

If you have set a screen lock, updated the software, re-registered your prints, and even factory reset the phone with no success, the sensor itself may be physically damaged, often after a drop or knock. At that point, home fixes cannot help.

Take the phone to CarlCare, which is the official Infinix service centre, especially if it is still under warranty, since an unofficial repair can void that cover. An authorised technician can test the sensor and replace it if needed. For other common phone faults beyond the fingerprint sensor, our guide on common phone faults and their solutions covers what else to check, and if your phone also struggles to stay connected, our guide on fixing network connection issues on Android walks through those fixes too.

Most Infinix fingerprint problems come down to a missing screen lock, a software glitch, or a dirty sensor, all of which you can fix yourself in minutes. Start with the screen lock check, work down the list, and only treat it as a hardware fault once every software step has failed. For official support or a warranty repair near you, the official CarlCare support site lists Infinix service centres and contact options.

    • First, recheck to see if it really disappeared. Reboot your phone and if it doesn’t solve the problem reset your phone. I believe this is all you can do to fix any Android phone finger print without a professional help
